Kensington School

The curriculum at Kensington School was created to develop the whole child by getting back to basics. Children have a natural curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. At Kensington, we exercise these behaviors, and provide tools for the discovery of learning. We acknowledge that children learn through play, and allow for free choice and outdoor activity. However, we also believe that children thrive in a structured environment with academic instruction.

Our accelerated literacy and mathematics programs begin with our preschoolers and evolves into curriculum that meets their academic needs up through kindergarten.

There are many theories and many curriculum's available for preschool and kindergarten programs. Here at Kensington, we use tidbits of many programs such as Dorling-Kindersley, Evan-Moor, Scholastic, and Spectrum to name but a few. All the curricula we employ will promote an "active" approach to learning for each student.

We know that curriculum is only as good as the teacher...and the means by which the curriculum is implemented is what makes our program so effective.

Mastery of early Math and Reading by kindergarten have been linked to better school performance later on. Existing data show these skills are the greatest predictors of a child's success in school.
